Abstract

Threshold logic has traditionally been reserved for purely academic considerations related to the theory of switching functions. Modern VLSI circuitry is ill-suited to the implementation of threshold logic devices and relies exclusively on simple gates for its computational power. Recent developments in integrated optics have shown¹ that it is possible to optically implement a threshold function.
