Abstract

Threshold logic has traditionally been reserved for purely academic considerations related to the theory of switching functions. Modern VLSI circuitry is ill-suited to the implementation of threshold logic devices and relies exclusively on simple gates for its computational power. Recent developments in integrated optics have shown1 that it is possible to optically implement a threshold function.
