Abstract

SCIDAR is an acronym for SCIintillation Detection And Ranging. This new optical sounder allows remote sensing of the atmospheric turbulence from an altitude of 1km up to 20-30km. The basic principle of this turbulence profiler is the statistical analysis of the speckle pattern produced by the light coming from a double star [1].
