Challenges in Calibration of Operational Fourier transform Spectrometers for Space-based Nadir Sounding of the Earth’s Atmosphere

Open Access Open Access

The application of Fourier transform spectrometers to nadir atmospheric sounding from space, as will be operationally performed by the NPOESS Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) and EUMETSAT METOP Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Instrument (IASI) instruments, requires a careful examination of short and long-term calibration issues to insure sufficient radiometric precision and accuracy.
