Abstract
A high efficiency sodium vapor Faraday filter used in sodium lidar is discussed. The new generation has lower working temperature 124 C and magnetic leakage. These prolong the lifetime of the filter and increase the total efficiency of the receiving system. The improved filter increased the transmission by a factor of three to 28% with a bandwidth (FWHM) of 2GHz. The new filters have proven invaluable for making daytime measurements with the sodium wind lidars in Fort Collins and in Norway.
