Abstract
The Umkehr and SBUV methods for deriving stratospheric ozone profile information are based upon backscatter and forward scatter of ultraviolet radiation. A strong relationship exists between the two types of measurements when the instruments view the same atmosphere. An algorithm was developed to estimate SBUV albedo from Umkehr measurements, therefore, permitting a continuous check on the calibration of the SBUV which is known to drift with time.
We will present the preliminary results of our method to estimate the calibration change of SBUV and the effect that this change produces on stratospheric ozone profile trends. We will also describe the errors associated with the mathematical and experimental aspects of the combined method.
