High Precision Cavity Detector Performance

Abstract

A new cavity detector has been developed for high precision earth radiation monitoring from space. The detector has a flat spectral response from 0.2 to 100 microns with 100% linearity over the full dynamic range. The detector features a sensitivity improvement of more than an order of magnitude over previous similar detectors. Several detector modules and a complete set of breadboard electronics were built and tested by Space Instruments, Inc. as part of a NASA funded development program. A photograph of one of the detector modules with an integral preamplifier is shown in Figure 1.
