Lidar-Acoustic Sounding of the Atmosphere

Abstract

This paper puts forward three new remote sensing applications based on the detection of acoustic modulation of lidar returns in the atmosphere. The modulation is caused by density changes in the lidar scattering centers induced by an acoustic wave launched from near the lidar.
