Abstract
The Advanced Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS) which is planned for launch in early 1996 by National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) will carry an atmospheric sensor "Improved Limb Atmospheric Spectrometer (ILAS)" developed by Japan Environment Agency (EA) (Sasano et al., 1992). The ILAS measures the atmospheric absorption spectrum in the visible channel (from 753 nm to 784 nm in wavelength) and in the infrared channel (from 850 cm-1 to 1610 cm-1 in wavenumber) to get vertical profiles of O3 and ozone chemistry related species and parameters such as HNO3, NO2, N2O, H2O, CH4, CFC11, aerosols and temperature based on the solar occultation method. The measurements are made for the stratosphere (from about 10 km to 60 km) over the high latitude regions in both hemispheres (55 - 70 degrees North and 63 - 87 degrees South). The longitudinal resolution is about 25 degrees.
