Abstract

We recently deployed the new version of a high-prf, low-power, CO2 Doppler lidar at the cloud and radiation testbed (CART) southern great plains site near Ponca City, Oklahoma. This lidar was developed to study cloud microphysics and boundary layer structure. In its final configuration the instrument will have dual wavelength capability enabling it to make Doppler wind observations and differential absorption lidar (DIAL) species concentration measurements in the lower 3-5 km of the atmosphere. Combining these measurement will allow one instrument to provide concentration and vertical flux profiles of water vapor and ozone to support climate and global-change related research in the lower troposphere.
