Propulsion of particles using ultrathin optical fibers

Abstract

Propulsion of polystyrene particles under the evanescent field of higher order microfiber modes was studied. Experimental and theoretical results demonstrated much faster speeds for particles under higher order mode propulsion compared with the fundamental mode.
