Abstract
Intermolecular electrostatic interactions among chromophores inhibit the introduction of acentric chromophore order (ACQ) by electric field poling. We outline a statistical-mechanical approach to estimating the ACO and the effects of molecular shape. Examples are compared to theory and shown to improve ACO.
