Abstract

We developed tunable monochromatic terahertz (THz)-wave sources using optical parametric processes based on wavelength conversion of laser light. Using THz parametric oscillation of a LiNbO3 crystal pumped by a Q-switched Nd: YAG laser, we have realized widely tunable coherent THz - wave sources. Difference frequency mixing (DFM) methods using nonlinear crystals are also attractive for generating wide range THz-wave. Continuous-wave THz- wave generation using DFM with periodically poled LiNbO3 is also discussed.
