Abstract
We generated 1.0 mW average output power at 2.9 terahertz (THz) using quasi-phasematched (QPM) GaAs as a frequency mixer for a synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator’s (OPO) signal and idler waves in a doubly-resonant configuration. The output frequency was tuned from 0.65-3.4 THz in a singly-resonant configuration reaching 50 μW of average power. THz generation was a cascaded process which created multiple THz photons for a single infrared (IR) photon.
