Abstract

While the number of contact lens wearers in the US doubled in the past decade, to 22 million, the growth rate has slowed down during the last years, because the average age of the contact lens population is increasing. It can be expected that, over the next several years, the typical contact lens wearing patient will be of presbyopic age. Therefore, a number of marketing analysts believe that the future of the contact lens market lies in the presbyopic patient (Wall Street Journal, 1989).
