Photoacoustic Spectroscopy of Metals and Metglasses+)

Abstract

Metallic compounds are optically opaque in the infrared and visible wavelength region. Due to their high reflectivity R, only a small part (1-R) of the incident light intensity Io is absorbed in the material. With regard to the optical detection, the experimental conditions are very similar to those of transparent materials, where PAS has become a promising technique. The present work is concerned with PA studies of the optical reflectivity of amorphous metallic compounds. Here we report on first results obtained at 10K and at room temperature from some metglasses and noble metals; the latter have been used as reference materials.
