Practical considerations

Abstract

As with common sense, the practical considerations preceding any successful experiment are obvious in retrospect. Photon correlation experiments particularly demand an understanding and assurance of many features which may be taken for granted in simpler and less demanding applications. A major danger is that of sub-optimisation where one achieves flawless performance in the areas one knows about and somehow the less well understood areas receive less attention. To obtain the best from any experiment, every part of the sensing system and its interface with the measured phenomenon and the observer merits attention.
