Abstract
We propose a novel technique to enhance a non-volatile photorefractive grating in a two-color holographic recording. Resultant diffraction efficiency is increased by an applied external electric field in the fixing process. The influence of the external electric field is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. In an iron and manganese codoped lithium niobate crystal, resultant diffraction efficiency was enhanced from 0.4 % to 1.7% when a 10 kV/cm electric field was applied anti-parallel to the +c-axis.
