Progress towards demonstrating the viability of the synchronous multifrequency optical network (SYMFONET) for computer- and telecoms-distributed switching systems

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The SYMFONET concept allows practical fixed-wavelength distributed-feedback laser transmitters and multichannel-grating demultiplexer receivers to be used to form a passive optical-star network with ultra-high-capacity (10-100 Gb/s) and extremely low-latency switching of packetized data. This talk reports on progress at STC towards demonstrating the key component and system aspects.
