Nonlinear optical applications of photorefractive liquid crystal light-valves

Abstract

We present a novel optical medium formed by a liquid crystal layer coupled to a thin photorefractive crystal, allowing a dynamical control of the liquid crystal birefringence. We show two-wave mixing amplification, optical pattern formation and self-pumped phase conjugation.
