Suppression of Optical Damage in Lithium Niobate Crystals by Thermo-Electric Oxidization

Abstract

Thermo-electric treatment of lithium niobate crystals causes a strong oxidization of the material by removal of Li+ ions that take electrons with them. Consequently optical damage is suppressed because of lack of photo-excitable charge carriers.
