Multilayer spot-size converter in SOI for coupling between nanowire and fiber

Abstract

We present a new taper-free design for a spot-size converter between Silicon nanowire and fiber. Numerical simulations using Finite Element Method and Eigenmode Expansion show 80% power coupling, relaxed alignment tolerances and short device length.
