Effective methods for performance promotion of silicon-based thin film solar cells

Abstract

We present our latest progress in adopting effective electrical and optical controls to improve the performance of silicon based thin-film solar cells. By maximizing the light coupling and trapping in solar cells, component materials optimization, and effective interface engineering in single and multi-junction silicon thin-film solar cells, an initial efficiency of 13.56%, 16.07%, and 15.03% were respectively achieved for tandem (a-Si: H/μc-Si: H), triple-(a-Si: H/a-SiGe: H/μc-Si: H), and quadruple-junction ((a-Si: H/a-SiGe: H/ a-SiGe: H/μc-Si: H) silicon thin-film solar cells.
