Efficient CW Optical Limiting in a Nematic Liquid Crystal Twist Cell

Abstract

Highly efficient optical limiting is observed in a nematic liquid crystal twist cell constructed with photoconducting alignment surfaces. Limiting at the submilliwatt level is obtained. The effective optical Kerr coefficient is approximately 10cm2/W.
