Fiber Fault Monitoring Using Distinct Reflected Pulse Shapes in Short-Reach PONs

Abstract

We propose a simple, low-cost, out-of-band, OTDR technique for fiber fault monitoring in point to multipoint (P2MP) short- reach PONs. Branch specific faults are isolated using unique reflection characteristics of the FBGs in each of the branches.
