Abstract
Pulsed thallium and gallium visible laser amplifiers have resulted from the pursuit of studies1 whose focus has been to characterize the constraints of spin conservation, internal state relaxation, and fast energy transfer associated with the formation of copious quantities of SiO and GeO a3Σ+ and b3π metastable states as the products of the primary spin conserving2 Si-N2O, Si-NO2, Ge-N2O, add Ge-O3 reactions. These long-lived triplet states act as an energy reservoir for fast inter- molecular· energy transfer to excite potentially lasing atomic transitions. Using this approach we obtained amplification from thallium at 535 nm (gain coefficient α ≥ 2.5/cm) and gallium at 417 nm (α~2).1
