Abstract

We describe a photoconducting antenna array, a novel optoelectronic device for optically generating and electrically controlling a submillimeter wave. With the optical excitation of a train of properly spared laser pulses, the direction of the emitted submillimeter wave can be electrically steered in free space by varying the static bias voltage on each antenna element of the array.
