Abstract

Rapid developments over the past several years have made the Ti:sapphire laser (Ti:Al2O3) a reliable source for broadly tunable, high-power radiation with a versatility that leads to diverse applications. Of particular interest from the perspective of optical physics is the relative ease with which the linewidth of the laser can be reduced to the kilohertz domain and the efficiency with which the radiation can be frequency doubled to the blue. For example, in our work we obtain a linewidth of 1.0 kHz rms for the fluctations of the laser frequency as recorded within the servo loop.
