Laser spectroscopy of cold free radicals

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Ultracold (<5-K) organic free radicals can be produced by excimer laser photolysis of suitable precursor molecules entrained in a supersonic free-jet expansion. Characterization of the geometry electronic structure, and dynamics of these transient chemical intermediates can be accomplished by laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy.
