Topological measurements of quantum-field fluctuations in cavities

Abstract

I have investigated the possibilities of measuring radiative quantum noise in cavities by topological, Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effects of cavity fields on electronic or optical-ring interferometers. The essence of these topological effects is that the AB phase, acquired by an electron or optical wave as it encircles a ring, is periodic in the magnetic or electric flux of the cavity radiation enclosed by that ring. The present work shows that the mean AB phase and its fluctuations can reveal the quantum uncertainty of the cavity field and the scaling of this uncertainty with the diamagnetic of dielectric index of the cavity medium.
