Abstract
Pump-probe measurements by IR-IR double resonance and other techniques have only looked at the dynamics of vibrationally excited SF6 molecules in the pumping region or the lime evolution of energy relaxations in the excited molecules themselves. However the spatial evolution and dissipation of the vibrational energy in SF6 molecules after being pumped by a CO2 laser have scarcely been reported. Some investigation4-5 have addressed only the density change resulting from V-T relaxation in the absorbing gas inside the laser beam and the sound-wave propagation outside.
