Wavegulding In insoluble conjugated polymers

Abstract

It has been shown that some organic materials, in particular conjugated polymers characterized by π-electron delocalization, have large third-order nonresonant optical nonlinearities, However, with a few exceptions such as poly-4BCMU, conjugated polymers are not soluble in common solvents making waveguide fabrication by spincoating difficult. In this paper, we show waveguiding, to our knowledge for the first time, in two classes of conjugated polymers: PBZT films made by film extrusion and PPPQ films made by complexation mediated processing.
