Abstract
We have fabricated large, 2-D arrays of phase-locked vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers that emit 50% of their light in a central on-axis lobe. Previously fabricated 2-D phase-locked laser arrays have had a four-lobed off-axis far-field pattern,1,2 because the lowest threshold array mode in which there are adjacent elements is out of phase by π.3
