Abstract

In 1989 seeded preparation experiments revealed that bulk germanosilicate glass preforms could be encoded to exhibit efficient second harmonic generation (SHG).1 These results showed that χ(2) values as large as those measured in fibers could be obtained and indicated that the fiber drawing process is not critical for the efficient doubling phenomenon.
