Photoinduced bleaching of the 242 nm absorption band in Ge-doped silica optical fibers by visible light

Abstract

In silica glass doped with germanium, an absorption band centered at 242 nm has been assigned to reduced germanium species.1 The bleaching of this band is believed to be partly responsible for the refractive-index change that can be photoinduced in Ge-doped optical fibers.
