Abstract

The phenomena of cross-phase modulation (XPM) between two polarization components of a femtosecond pulse in a birefringent erbium-doped fiber amplifier are studied. The effects involved include XPM, dispersive amplification, higher-order dispersion, shock effect, and Raman response.
