Abstract
We report on a high-resolution measurement of the spectrum of resonance fluorescence from 85Rb in a 1-dimensional optical molasses. The spectrum contains detailed and easily interpretable information about the atomic motion on a microscopic level. A typical spectrum is shown in Fig 1. It contains only a narrow carrier and one pair of strongly suppressed sidebands, and is thus characteristic of a trapped radiator deep within the Lamb-Dicke regime.
