Abstract
In the past year, matter-wave interference with atoms has been demonstrated by several groups. Microfabricated structures have been used to observe interference in the Young's 2-slit configuration1 and also with three transmission gratings.2 The momentum recoil of atoms from pulses of light also can be used to coherently divide an atomic wave packet. A four-pulse geometry has been used to observe the Sagnac effect3 and we have used a three-pulse sequence to measure an atom's acceleration due to gravity4
