Abstract
It has recently become possible to detect single dye molecules in solution.1 The observation technique involves the detection of a burst of photons when a molecule passes through a tightly focused laser beam, and the use of rapidly pulsed laser excitation and time-gated photon detection for discrimination against promptly scattered Raman light from solvent molecules.
