Abstract

The models of multilevel atom laser with different pumping schemes such as regular pumping when excited atoms are injected into the cavity at the fixed unfluctuated rate and conventional irregular incoherent pumping are considered. All considerations are based on a unified rigorous approach that takes into account correlations between the active atoms. For the regular pump scheme, the laser action is essentialy a nonstationary process. Incorporating important effects of nonstationary atomic fluctuations and atomic correlations reduces the amount of squeezing. Maximum of 25% amplitude squeezing can be achieved under conditions of comparable relaxation times of upper and lower lasing levels.
