Abstract

Ponderomotive forces generated in the focus of an intense laser pulse in a plasma are sufficient to create a very large density difference between ionic and electronic charges. An ultra short laser pulse can be used to excite the laser plasma and is expected to produce a powerful electromagnetic transient.1 Here we report the observation of this effect.
