Abstract

By reducing the intracavity dispersion in a self-modelocked Ti:sapphire laser,1-3 we have generated pulses of 10.9 fs in duration directly from a laser cavity. In this work, we use a standard Ti: sapphire self-modelocked laser cavity,4 with a 4.75-mm-long (0.15%- doped) Ti:sapphire laser crystal; the other cavity components consist of a pair of 10-cm focusing mirrors, a 10% output coupler, a high reflector, and a pair of quartz prisms separated by 58.5 cm.
