Spatial distribution of atoms in a magneto-optical trap

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We have observed several different spatial distributions of laser-cooled sodium atoms in a magneto-optical trap (MOT). Observed structures include a double stable cloud of atoms, rings, double rings, and rings with a central core.
