Abstract

Spontaneous emission is a fundamental and unavoidable consequence of the quantum nature of the interaction between an atom and an electromagnetic field.1 The presence of a cavity1,2 or of reflecting walls8 affects the process of spontaneous emission itself, namely, they may inhibit or enhance this process.
