Abstract
The study of atomic coherence and its effects on the generation of electromagnetic radiation has been of great interest recently. Correlations induced among atomic states by a driving field can contribute to the coherence of the radiative process. Lasing without inversion is predicted to occur as result of such phenomena. Quantum dots provide a realization in semiconductor device structures of atomiclike systems with discrete states, which should also display coherence effects on radiative processes.1–4
