Abstract
The control of spontaneous emission by tailoring the available photon mode structure has been demonstrated in cavities, waveguides, interfaces, and, most recently, in face-centered cubic colloidal crystals.1-5 All of these cases, because of their high symmetry, can be directly interpreted in terms of a photon density-of-states approach, where the photon modes can be calculated.
