Intracavity interaction of a liquid crystal with pulsed CO2-laser radiation: influence on generation dynamics

Abstract

The application of liquid-crystal (LC) modulators to CO2 lasers1,2 is limited by the high absorption coefficient in the middle IR region for most LC materials. By the choice of LC components the absorption coefficient can be decreased to 15-20 cm−1 for λ = 9-11 μm. The processes in LG’s with relatively high absorption coefficients under the influence of radiation pulses can be divided into “slow” (τ >> τpulse) and “fast” (τ <τpulse) The second group can change the dynamics of generation.
