Abstract
A CO2 laser oscillating in a single mode of the 10P(18) line was made to pulse in a passive Q-switching mode by means of an intracavity 10-cm cell with SF6 as a saturable absorber. Such a laser produces periodic pulsations and enters a chaotic regime1 by homoclinic tangency,2 which can be induced by changing the absorber pressure or the laser frequency by cavity-length tuning.
