Photon Scattering in an Atom Interferometer: Coherence Loss and Recovery

Abstract

We present measurements of the fringe visibility when scattering a single resonant photon from two interfering de Broglie waves as a function of their mean path separation in an atom interferometer. Using a novel approach we have also correlated the photon scattering angle with detected atoms and recovered previously lost visibility.
