Abstract

It has been suggested1 that in the vicinity of nonabsorbing (dark) resonances interesting properties of the corresponding index of refraction could be expected and potentially also be applied, for instance, for high-sensitivity magnetometers2 or for the generation of low group velocities.3 A three- level atom is usually at the heart of such considerations.
