Abstract

Because of two wave mixing, the observed diffraction efficiency during the readout of photorefractive gratings frequently does not display exponential decay predicted by the band-transport model.1 The interaction of the diffracted signal with the incident readout wave results in the formation of new gratings that can enhance or degrade the existing gratings.
